Clean your Gutters before Winter
Don't Fall for Procrastination
The seasons may have skipped right over Fall this year, but do not "fall" into procrastinating on cleaning those gutters. Although it may not seem like it should be here, winter is here and those leaves in your gutters are not going to clean themselves. But if you do choose to "leave" it for later, you may have water problems to deal with now.
If your gutter becomes clogged it can lead to the water finding an alternate way to drain from your roof. Water taking a different course can cause many issues, such as:
- Leaky Basement - water that cannot drain properly from your roof can collect around your basement or crawlspace and will eventually find its way in.
- Cracked Foundation - this occurs when water is absorbed into the foundation and over time with the change in temperatures will expand and contract, causing cracks.
- Wood Rot - water that is constantly coming into contact with the wood on your home will eventually rot the wood.
